A Senior Cost Accountant job in Tacoma, WA, is available at Milgard Windows and Doors (MITER Brands). We are looking for a senior finance professional with a manufacturing background to assume responsibility for costing and inventory for the western manufacturing locations. The Senior Cost Accountant will support our monthly financial process, reporting and analysis activities, ensuring that all transactions are properly classified and financial statements are reported in accordance with GAAP. While the position is part of a matrix organization and reports up through Milgard Finance, the position is also part of the MITER finance team responsible for achieving operational and financial goals. Responsibilities:
Record costs and perform reporting including classifying, summarizing, communicating and interpreting cost data to internal and external parties
Cost measurement or estimation for specific products and services of the organization
Cost management, obtaining accurate process costing data and managing it to assist managers in making critical decisions such as pricing, product mix and process technology
Perform cost analysis, analyzing cost data and translating it into information useful for managerial planning and control and facilitate short-term and long-term decisions
Prepare and present quarterly material standard cost rolls and bi-annual labor and overhead rate updates to finance leaders for review and perform cost updates in ERP
Prepare quarterly excess and obsolete inventory analysis to determine reserve and identify areas to reduce and write-off of inventory
Analyze cost flow assumptions, inventory reporting, waste control, and variances from standard costs
Cost analysis to determine bill of materials are accurate
Develop and/or implement strong internal controls and create documentation for inventory and costing processes
Month end activities including overhead allocations, commodity cost tracking and bridge analysis of costs and revenues between reporting periods, obsolescence reserves, revenue recognition reserves and reconciliations
Partner with Operations for location physical inventories and inventory reconciliations
Support Corporate Finance during month-end close including preparing journal entries and maintaining general and subsidiary ledgers
Support the annual operating plan and forecasting processes by preparing material inflation impacts by commodity and product families
Prepare inventory and costing KPI's and identify opportunities for improvement
Perform projects to improve company performance
Support audit requests for external auditors
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting Required, Advanced degrees and certifications preferred
Seven plus years experience specifically in Cost Accounting with a clear progression of increased responsibilities
Experience in manufacturing required; Lean or other Continuous Improvement (CI) experiences are highly valued
Advanced Excel skills and experience with Business Intelligence (BI) tools required
Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and cost accounting theory, including standard costing, variance analysis and internal controls
Experience with accounting systems inventory control and product costing modules (Oracle ERP experience is a plus), along with an understanding and interest in product manufacturing processes
Must be experienced in month-end closing, cost reporting, budgeting, forecasting, as well as cost and operational analysis
Exemplary analytical and problem-solving skills
Strong communication skills and understanding how to work throughout all levels of the organization
Strong sense of urgency and self-motivation; ability to work independently
Ability to work under pressure and consistently meet deadlines
