Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:
This position ensures that financial transactions and balances related to student financial aid are monitored and analyzed.

Accountable for financial accounting, analysis, and reporting of various programs concerning student financial aid, including MAP, PELL, Federal Work Study, SEOG, VA 33 and Yellow Ribbon, DACA, Nursing Faculty Loan Program, Athletics and other programs as required (approximately $500 million of student financial aid).

This position reports to the Business Manager and works closely with the University’s General Accounting, Financial Aid, and Bursar’s areas.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position ensures that finance and finance-related balances related to student financial aid are monitored and analyzed.

Accountable for financial accounting and analysis of various programs concerning student financial aid, including MAP, PELL, Federal Work Study, SEOG, VA 33 and Yellow Ribbon, DACA, Nursing Faculty Loan Program, Athletics and other programs as required (approximately $500 million of student financial aid).

Duties and Responsibilities

• Develops and prepares reconciliations related to federal, state and institutional funds.

• Assists with the ongoing review of financial aid transactions and preparation of reports and analyses. Uses various software applications to assemble data and reports.

• Works with departments throughout the University to coordinate data need for various financial reporting purposes including IPEDS and FISAP reporting

• Supports maintenance and update of LOCUS as it relates to fiscal item types and related tables, including coordinating setup with Provost’s office, Financial Aid, Bursar, General Accounting and Financial Systems.

• Develops and maintains documentation of business processes of this area to ensure controls over transactional processing and reporting.

• Provides support for the accountant and business manager to ensure daily operations are completed in a timely manner.

This position reports to the Business Manager and works closely with the University’s General Accounting, Financial Aid, and Bursar departments.

Minimum Education/Work Experience

Bachelor’s degree and five years experience in accounting or financial analysis. CPA and/or MBA strongly preferred.

Qualifications

Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration related field.

Minimum of five years prior experience, preferably in a higher education environment.

Skillful at synthesizing large amounts of financial data to identify meaningful trends and analysis.

MBA preferred.

Excellent analytical, organizational, reasoning, problem-solving skills. Passion for serving the University and University community concerning analysis of student financial aid programs.

High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

Excellent verbal presentation and written communication skills.

Proficient in time management skills with the ability to prioritize or re-prioritize a variety of duties.

Leadership skills in training and continuing professional development.

Ability to interact with all levels of management within the Finance organization as well as cross-functionally (Provost Office, Financial Aid, etc.) and with team members, public accounting firms, consultants, university staff, and management.

Demonstrated ability and willingness to lead projects and function competently in a team to reach applicable objectives, respond quickly and effectively to changing situations, balance priorities, analyze and interpret statistical data, and maintain confidentiality.

Certificates/Credentials/Licenses

CPA preferred

Computer Skills

Skillful at synthesizing large amounts of financial data to identify meaningful trends and provide analysis.

Must have high level aptitude and skill with technology, including learning new technology and applications to improve processes, understanding databases and using MS Office or other reporting tools.

Knowledge of Lawson, PeopleSoft Student Financials, and WebFocus is highly desirable.
