Job Description

This strategic position will be responsible for leading the newsroom’s multi-platform content operation on a daily basis with direct oversight of both broadcast and digital platforms. This position will lead newsroom managers in evolving workflows and priorities in a Digital First environment and must have proven successes in breaking down silos and conventions. The Director of Content will put in place and oversee a platform-agnostic workflow and have specific oversight of the digital operation. The person selected for this position will have a clear track record and have experience and expertise in cultivating and growing digital and social platforms in major market newsrooms. The position will also be responsible for building successful and aligned broadcast and digital strategies to grow analytics for the platforms.


  • Overseeing the daily execution of a multi-platform strategy of news coverage.

  • Developing new, innovative workflows focused on growing the WBBM news footprint.

  • Create an environment that focuses accountability on original source journalism and enterprise content development.

  • Write, copy edit, and post scripts across all platforms.

  • Hire and lead direct reports with specific oversight of the digital operation.

  • Oversee all aspects of the content generation and presentation effort with emphasis on developing and growing the production on the digital and social platforms.

  • Responsible for development and execution of platform agnostic content management culture in the newsroom.

  • Lead efforts in execution and communication across station departments to grow the digital business.

  • Accountable for achieving site traffic goals


  • Superior news and editorial judgment in a competitive environment.

  • A track record in leading and innovating digital expansion in a broadcast newsroom.

  • Proven leadership in content development with an emphasis on digital and social platforms and success in growing analytics.

  • Strong communication skills and an expertise in teaching and coaching change in a newsroom environment.

  • Proven ability to oversee a digital effort in a broadcast newsroom with specific expertise in deploying new and evolving techniques to build audience.



Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communication or Mass Media

5+ years of news management and leadership experience
