Job Description

The Admissions Coordinator (AC), under the general supervision of the Associate Dean for Admissions and Recruitment, participates in recruitment, advising and admission activities with the purpose of meeting enrollment goals of the academic programs of the Rush University College of Nursing

Position Responsibilities:

  • Recruitment

    • Collaborate in the development of a yearly recruitment plan to meet college enrollment objectives.

    • Develop and implement online and offline recruitment tactics appropriate to targeted enrollments and diversity goals.

    • Track target enrollments and composition of current student body to measure alignment with college goals.

    • Develop and maintain relationships with prospective and current students, vendors and marketing partners.

    • Manage and maintain College social media sites; explore future opportunities in social media as new venues arise.

    • Periodically benchmark College against competitors, document results and suggest strategies to enhance market position.

    • Coordinate prospect/applicant diversity activities with Office of Multicultural Affairs.

    • Maintain and expand affiliate college relationships.

    • Represent the College at recruitment activities including school visits, information sessions, graduate and professional fairs, local, state and national conferences, and presentations to students and academic advisors at other institutions.

    • Assist in annual planning of recruitment activities; construct a spreadsheet of visits and fairs with costs to attend.

    • Function in a public relations role by meeting and greeting in a friendly, outgoing and professional manner all prospective applicants during appointments, walk-ins, telephone calls, and at recruitment activities.

    • Assist in development of recruitment materials, presentation packets and handouts.

    • Maintain knowledge of recruitment trends and information by participating in professional organizations, attending seminars, and reading professional journals and articles.

    • Generate innovations to improve current procedures with regard to recruitment and marketing.

  • Admissions

    • Assist Program Director in program management – track/monitor applicants through N-CAS to institute the appropriate action; provide program updates periodically during application periods; actively interact with applicants to facilitate application submission; conduct an initial file review to identify/categorize applicants.

    • Accurately communicate, both internally and externally, Rush University College of Nursing admission requirements and application process, providing guidance and assistance to applicants in obtaining prerequisite courses and conducting evaluations of applicant’s completed coursework from other institutions.

    • Coordinate ongoing communication with prospects through written correspondence, campus visits, and timely and consistent call backs.

    • Coordinate student self-scheduling for interviews.

    • Conduct campus “interview days” for students.

    • Develop collaborative relationships with the other colleges at Rush University for optimally efficient functioning of admission services.

  • Operational Activities

    • Retrieve information, create and run reports, and use the communication management options in the student information system.

    • Assist in preparing various reports as assigned by direct supervisor and faculty members.

    • Assist in the development and maintenance of an evaluation mechanism of admissions services, identify areas for improvement and collaborate in efforts to enhance the application experience.

    • Demonstrate the ability to act strategically and astutely in organizational relationships.

    • Perform other duties as assigned by the College of Nursing.

Position Qualifications Include:

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • Experience in an academic department or program is preferred

  • Excellent computer skills

  • Excellent working knowledge and experience with MS Office and Excel

  • Excellent knowledge of social media and current educational marketing trends

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and Student Information System, Datatel, preferred

  • Knowledge of the nursing field preferred Knowledge of photo imaging preferred

  • Excellent verbal skills, written communication, and telephone skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and professional demeanor

  • Excellent problem solving and collaboration skills

  • Able to consistently provide excellent customer service in a friendly, outgoing, and professional manner

  • Able and willing to learn new skills as needed, especially to work with new technologies that become available

  • Able to lift a minimum of 20-25 pounds to manage recruitment materials for off campus events Able and willing to periodically travel out of state and overnight

  • Able to work occasional evenings and weekends

  • Valid driver’s license and own transportation
