Job Description

The Senior Paralegal will assist with a wide range of legal support, with a strong emphasis on handling various trademark and general IP prosecution matters.  The Senior Paralegal shall also be responsible for drafting and negotiating routine contracts, managing the  policy process and supporting other legal department projects and initiatives as requested.   

This position supports the organization’s ability to comply with applicable laws, regulations, and policies, necessary to protect YMCA of the USA and the YMCA brand.  

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 7 years of related working experience as a trademark paralegal in a corporate IP department or law firm
  • Bachelor’s degree and paralegal certificate or equivalent experience preferred
  • Experience preparing and filing electronic documents with the USPTO
  • Solid online research skills and knowledge of online trademark search databases including Saegis
  • Ability to manage tight deadlines and manage multiple assignments simultaneously
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with attorneys and internal business partners to ensure the completion of projects and department priorities
  • Ability to negotiate, develop and modify (redline) contractual documents
  • Ability to work with subject matter experts on the development and maintenance of organizational policies.

Essential Functions

  • Conduct knock-out searches for trademark clearance using online search tools
  • Prepare and file domestic trademark applications, affidavits, and renewals
  • Organize and updates trademark files
  • Communicate with outside counsel on trademark applications, registrations, and oppositions
  • Review licensing, marketing, and software agreements
  • Assist with domain name filings and anti-cyber squatting efforts
  • Maintain a trademark docket and monitor deadlines
  • Prepare routine cease and desist letters
  • Draft, review and negotiate routine contracts 
  • Review marketing collateral for proper trademark use
  • Review contest and site rules/disclaimers
  • Posts content and support the review and management of legal resources posted to Y-USA knowledge management platform
  • Develop and conduct IP trainings
  • Work with subject matter experts on the development of policies
  • Manage the organizational policy plan and process

Salary$72,000.00 - $82,000.00
