Collects specimens, and analyzes, evaluates, interprets, teaches, and reports test results from a variety of specimens to provide clinical data which aid the physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Performs Maintenance, QA, QC, CAP Workload Recording, and other activities the support the everyday workings of the laboratory. Directs designated employees. Problems solves and troubleshoots in a variety of different circumstances. Works within a team which reports to a Laboratory Manager. Requires advances level of chemistry, biology, mathematics, hematology, and microbiology which is acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory science, one of the specialty areas, or one of chemical or biological sciences. Board-registered or eligible for registry (ASCP or NCA certification and/or eligibility) as a medical technologist (clinical laboratory scientist) or specialist in a specialty field. Approximately six to twelve months clinical laboratory experience necessary in order to gain comprehensive understanding of department policies and procedures as well as proficiency in performing laboratory procedures.
