Job Description

This role will be the subject matter expert and have the technical expertise in RF (radio-frequency), operations, engineering and analytics discipline.  This position will utilize Data Science practices leveraging Big Data, AI/Machine Learning, and Predictive Analytics.  This role will collaborate with centralized analytics functions to drive analytics strategy, adoption of scientific analytics techniques across the organization, and improve decision-making using these techniques.  Provide subject matter expertise to the department around analytics, performance, and capacity engineering.  Act as liaison with applications development and tools teams to ensure data is available for appropriate analytics activities.  In cooperation with the centralized analytics teams, evaluate and implement new technologies, policies, and procedures for business network operations, leading to eventual automation of analytics activities to ensure agility.  Leveraging Agile & DevOps techniques, present performance and capacity engineering analytics results, reports, and recommendations to performance engineers, performance managers, engineering managers, and executive management.
 
•  Develop predictive modeling using statistical methodologies for generating engineering recommendations.
•  Analyze and recommend performance and capacity upgrades needed for customer-facing data systems and services.
•  Leverage machine learning (supervised/unsupervised/reinforcement) techniques of network & system metrics to determine tuning recommendations to improve performance.
•  Defines analytics applications requirements and works with tools team to integrate into existing infrastructure.
•  Provide guidance to the business on the fast-evolving space of Data Science in areas such as Big Data, AI/Machine Learning, and Predictive Analytics.
•  Leads project management for customer-facing performance and capacity related projects.
•  Implements performance and capacity reporting and methodology  changes related  to new systems and services.
•  Lead interaction with partner organizations/departments.
•  Leads customer-facing performance and capacity strategy review meetings, presentations, and training sessions.
•  Interfaces with the vendors’ senior technical staff/management on critical/escalated capacity issues.
•  Manages issue identification and resolution process, including escalations to senior management; serves as the senior focal point for performance and capacity-related issues.
•  Aligns current performance and capacity engineering and processes with industry best practices, monitors variances.
•  Develop and maintain capacity standards, policies and procedures documentation.
•  Support identification and collection of metrics and performance reporting processes.
•  Identify process improvement areas and develop the improvement initiatives. Ensure communication of process and procedure changes to key stakeholders. 
•  Maintain relationships with the customers, associates, and vendors to proactively identify needed changes.
•  Establish working relationships with technical and business counterparts.
•  Lead and participate in process improvement initiatives leveraging analytics.
•  Assembles cross-functional workgroups of key stakeholders.
•  Actively participates in industry/vendor forums to guide performance and capacity analytics activities.
•  Develop and deliver cross-training activities.

•  Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Statistical Analysis, Business Analytics, IT, Telecommunications, Engineering or equivalent experience is required.
•  Minimum 5 years relevant work experience required. Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Statistical Analysis, Business Analytics or related analytics based curriculum can be substituted for 2 years data experience.
•  Certification(s) in relevant field of expertise is preferred.
•  Understanding of the telecom business and industry preferred.
•  Experience re-engineering / process improvement preferred.
•  Strong change management skills; change agent required.
•  Utilizes advanced analytics methodologies to provide guidance based on findings within the Engineering orgnization.  
•  Strong project management experience running cross-functional teams preferred.
•  Excellent problem solving / analytical skills and knowledge of analytical tools required.
•  Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
•  Excellent presentation skills demonstrated in front of large audiences preferred.
•  Experience supporting mission-critical infrastructure in a fast-paced environment preferred.
•  Up to 10% travel required for regional, vendor, training, and engineering meetings.
 
Technical Skills:
•  Analytics Software: R, SAS, Tableau, Python, Java.
•  Analytics Infrastructure: Hadoop Ecosystem, RDBMS (SQL), MPP, Graph Databases.
•  Statistics: Time Series Analysis, Multivariate Analysis, A/B testing, Descriptive Statistics.
•  Machine Learning: Supervised/Unsupervised/Reinforcement Learning methods.
•  Systems: Routers (Cisco, ALU, Nortel), PDSN/HA, Firewalls, Load Balancers, MMS, SMS, LSNAT, EVDO, LTE.
•  Tools: NetScout, Netcool, MRTG, Infovista, Wireshark, Solar Winds.
•  Other: IP address management/subnetting,  statistical analysis, advanced Excel and PowerPoint, Visio, and MS Project.
