Join US Cellular’s accounting and finance team and accept the challenge to grow, contribute and impact the customer experience for millions of wireless customers across the U.S. We are an ambitious, fast-paced team responsible for accounting and operational functions at U.S. Cellular, a technology-based, publicly-traded company on the NYSE.   The Senior Accountant role will develop your skills and leadership through analysis of complex accounting topics, critical thinking, innovative use of technology, and guidance of other team members. The primary focus of this position is to support the preparation of GAAP financial statements. The position provides an opportunity for an individual to gain an overall understanding of the Company’s financial statements by playing an integral role in supporting the operations of the business, facilitating the timely completion and analysis of financial results and accounting transactions, leading an efficient close process, and understanding of internal and external requirements to ensure accurate reporting. This role requires an energetic individual who proactively identifies and implements process and technology improvements, and has a passion for accounting, and learning about the wireless business and wireless technology.   Principal Accountabilities
  • Resolves a wide range of accounting issues in innovative ways
  • Performs periodic testing of key internal controls, and alerts management to any control deficiencies in a timely manner
  • Supports both internal and external audits by providing necessary support
  • Conducts special studies and develops or recommends accounting methods or procedures
  • Analyze financial reports and records, making both accounting and operational improvement recommendations
  • Reviews and verifies the accuracy of journal entries and accounting classifications
  • Provide business partners and management with actual-to-budget variance analysis including providing insight to identify causes and resolution of variances
  • Manages workload effectively and efficiently by prioritizing responsibilities
  • Reviews, researches and recommends improvements to analysis, reporting, and systems
  • Respond to financial inquiries of operational management providing requested information for management of the business
  • Coordinates accounting matters with other departments and locations
  • Provides functional advice or training to less-experienced associates
 Responsibility and Decision Making   Within acceptable accounting practices, Senior Accountants demonstrate sound judgment in developing solutions to apply to their areas.  Assignments are broad in nature, requiring originality and ingenuity to complete.  Senior accounts must have the ability to work well independently and formulate recommendations for solutions   
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred
  • Minimum of three years of broad accounting experience; public accounting experience preferred, Big Four a plus
  • Broad knowledge of accounting principles, practices and procedures
  • Experience working with or within a public company with SEC reporting and SOC control requirements preferred
 Skills  
  • Strong PC literacy skills in a Windows environment with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Access and Word)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of management and associates

  • Cyclical, sometime unplanned overtime required
  • Light travel
