Job Description

McDonald’s seeks a federal Manager for its U.S. Government Relations team. The position will lead external engagement with federal elected officials, Administration officials, regulatory agencies trades, and other federal stakeholders. The Manager will be the primary point of contact for members of the Tri-Caucus (Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC)) and will support the work of the two federal Directors of U.S. Government Relations who work on issues which include agriculture, energy/environment, health, tax and labor. In collaboration with the two Directors, the Manager will develop and execute a proactive engagement plan to enhance brand reputation. S/he will work closely with the two Directors to plan, coordinate and execute the activities of the U.S. government relations team in the areas of outreach, events, message development, issue management, influencer engagement, policy communications and thought leadership.

The Manager will interface with key internal (owner-operators, GR and other departments, corporate and regional management) and external stakeholders (trade associations, legislative consultants, and other industry professionals). The successful candidate will serve as an ambassador for the McDonald’s Brand, possess significant political acumen and have federal government relations expertise and strategic planning capabilities. Strong writing, presentation and relationship-development skills are essential as this position requires communication to a variety of audiences. This position reports to the Director of Health and Nutrition and will be a member of the Corporate Relations team, led by Global Chief Communications Officer, Robert Gibbs. PRIMARY

RESPONSIBILITIES

 Develop and implement a plan for proactively establishing productive relationships with the TriCaucus.  Develop strategies to positively impact brand reputation and federal regulatory and legislative issues facing the McDonald’s system.
 Advocate and work with third party groups to address system priorities.
 Establish and maintain a sophisticated political network.
 Maintain and advocate for McDonald’s in trade associations; use trade associations to reach McDonald’s business and advocacy goals.
 Develop and implement plans to successfully coordinate key outreach plans in Washington DC, including, but not limited to, a fly-in, staff briefings, meet-and-greets and informational testimony
 Partner with regional staff to amplify local government relations efforts initiatives.
 Help direct field activities when grassroots action is necessary to influence legislation.
 Assist in developing and maintaining communication pathways with operator leadership, regional leadership, and senior management, advising them on all matters relating to local legislation and public policy issues of interest.
 Work closely with state and local staff and provide information, advice and perspective concerning federal government leadership, policies and activities.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
 BA/BS degree
 5+ years of experience in federal government relations/lobbying and/or congress PREFERRED

QUALIFICATIONS
 Experience in the private sector preferred
 Familiarity with industry preferred  Campaign experience a plus
 Strong communication and interpersonal skills
