Job Description

General Description 
Reporting to the Director of Financial Aid and working collaboratively across departments, the Financial 
Services & Funding Specialist will focus on the expansion, coordination, administration, tracking and 
maintenance of all funding resources available to Urban College of Boston students, while servicing as 
back up and support to the Financial Services Department. Work is performed under the supervision of 
the Director of Financial Aid.
FLSA Status: Exempt
Hours: 37.50 hours/week
Salary Range: $50,000-$60,000
• Promotes positive morale and teamwork within the department and provides exceptional 
customer service to students, Admissions, Students Services, and other departments within the 
Urban College of Boston community. 
• Manages and analyzes new funding opportunities available to Urban College students to support 
enrollment goals.
• Scholarship Administration (State, Private, and Institutional)
o Advise prospective and current students regarding state scholarships, the processes, 
deadlines, and requirements to maintain eligibility. 
o Work collaboratively with financial aid office to facilitate the awarding of scholarships 
through Saint Director when Title IV is present.
o Supports all other state funded grants, including the approval and disbursement of 
o Works closely with the Business Office on reconciling private & state scholarships. 
o Assist the Director of Financial Aid with the filing of the yearly Massachusetts state grant 
o Works collaboratively with leadership and marketing to maintain and update all 
scholarship and grant materials, internally and on the website. 
o Responsible for training and dissemination of scholarship and grant information with 
students and staff.
• Assist the Business Office with organizing, tracking, and collecting internal student payment 
• Maintain comprehensive knowledge of all general federal, state, and institutional policies and 
procedures related to financial aid. 
• Responsible for identifying and working with the Business Office to ensure the timely return of 
Federal Financial Aid funds. 
• Works collaboratively with Director of Financial Aid to ensure all students are financed, 
disbursed, and reviewed on a term-by-term basis. 
• When necessary, will work collaboratively with the Business Office and Financial Services team 
to input student information into Sonis or Urban College third party service systems.
• Will serve as back up to Financial Services and support English/Spanish students with various 
aspects of financial aid (i.e., application procedures, scholarship and grant guidelines, federal 
and private loan requirements, verification documentation, etc.) when needed.
• Performs all other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Director of Financial Aid.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 
• Self-directed, with good organizational skills 
• Ability to act independently as well as part of a team.
• Must possess excellent customer service skills and be adaptable to a changing work 
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office with emphasis on working with spreadsheet data.
• Must possess good oral and written communication skills. 
• Must be able to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Maintain confidentiality.
• Demonstrated willingness and ability to act ethically and socially responsible.
Preferred Qualifications: 
• Bachelor's degree required or work experience equivalent.
• Bilingual English Spanish.
• Previous experience in Financial Aid, Higher Education, or related field is preferred. 
• Must be familiar with federal, state, and Institutional programs and the requirements for 
administering each program.
• 1-2 years related work experience.
Condition of Employment: 
• Must not have any unresolved financial issues with the U.S. Department of Education that would 
prohibit the ability to obtain National Student Loan System (NSLDS) access immediately upon
