Job Description


The Senior Grant Administrator provides critical support to assigned principal investigators and departmental administrators regarding grant and contract policies and procedures, compliance, regulatory issues, and post-award administration. 
Duties & Responsibilities: 
- Provides all phases of financial administrative support for sponsored projects in the assigned units to faculty and administrative personnel. 
- Monitors grant and contract expenditures, re-budgeting, cost-sharing, equipment 
justifications, etc. to ensure costs are allowable, allocable and reasonable. 
- Maintains and implements, where appropriate, sound internal accounting controls to efficiently manage assigned grants and contracts. 
- Collaborates with University personnel at all levels to ensure the successful management and spending of externally and internally funded projects, including principal investigators, department and division administrators, deans and chairs, and pre-award administrators. 
- Serves as liaison between the University and external funding agencies in matters of financial reporting, budgeting and accounting. 
- Reviews grant or contract agreements and preparation of financial account set-up in accordance with award terms and conditions to ensure compliance with Uniform Guidance in general, as well as specific granting agencies’ requirements. 
- Analyzes and evaluates grant and contract budgets for accurate expenditure categories including fringe benefit and facilities and administrative costs. 
- Prepares all required external reports according to agency guidelines on a timely and accurate basis. 
- Oversees the close out of assigned grants and contracts and prepare for an annual audit to ensure compliance Uniform Guidance. 
- Provides daily processing of non-salary and salary expenditures, budget appropriations, financial reporting, and accounting unit maintenance. 
- Works as a team member to successfully complete quarterly and annual financial processes and to meet fiscal year close requirements. 
- In addition to daily grant administration functions, this position will be responsible for various projects assigned by the Associate Vice President or Director/Manager to enhance SPA’s processes and procedures. 
- Performs other duties as required. 

Minimum Education and/or Work Experience

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field and two to four years of experience with federal and non-federal grant management. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

- Three to five years of experience with federal and non-federal grant management; advanced degree in business preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. 
– Working knowledge of non-profit cost principles, including Uniform Guidance. 
- Strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal, analytical, and problem- solving skills are required. 
- Ability to analyze and interpret financial reports, and grant and contract agreements. 
- Ability to work with colleagues at all levels of the University and to respond to customer inquiries and regulatory agencies in a prompt, professional manner. 

Computer Skills

Advanced Excel skills needed. Must have proficient overall computer skills, ability to 
effectively use all MS Office applications and be an adept user of Internet, e-mail and other office automation systems. 
Lawson knowledge preferred.
