Position Title: Registered Nurse - Outdoor School
Department: Department of Schools
Location: Outdoor School (Various Locations NW Oregon)
Reports To: Outdoor School Site Supervisor
Start Date: September 17th, 2021
End Date: November 5th or November 12th
Salary: $35.45 - $41.10 per hour DOE

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. RN, licensed to practice in the state of Oregon.
  2. Technical skills to meet emergencies.
  3. Good nursing judgment and common sense.
  4. Ability to communicate effectively with all staff, doctor and medical facility personnel, teachers, counselors, parents/guardians and students themselves.
  5. Ability to thrive in a residential work environment, five or six days per week.
  6. Current CPR certification.

 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Provide health supervision, counseling and leadership.
  2. Oversee the health and safety of students.  Establish the highest possible level of health care through early screening, detection, evaluation and referral.
  3. Maintain facilities for dispensary and infirmary care.
  4. Administer current and appropriate first aid as needed.
  5. Administer all medications and treatments according to physician's order.  Retain and dispense all medications to students and counselors as prescribed.
  6. Assess illness and accidents and determine appropriate treatment or referral to physician or hospital.
  7. Make decisions on whether student should be sent home for medical reasons or remain at Outdoor Science School.
  8. Keep record of all drugs, medicines, and first-aid treatments in ledger.
  9. Collaborate with Site Supervisor to file accident reports as needed. 
  10. Serve as counselor, comforter and protector of students who may have difficulty adjusting to Outdoor Science School and being away from home.
  11. Oversee the safe and healthful operation of the Outdoor Science School site.
  12. Serve as "health advisor" to Outdoor Science School staff, teachers, kitchen staff, counselors and students, increasing their awareness of good health and safety practices.
  13. Perform collateral duties as assigned by supervisor.
  14. Be involved in all phases of the Outdoor Science School program as time permits.
  15. Transport students as needed.
  16. Maintain regular and consistent attendance and punctuality
  17. Work collaboratively and communicate effectively with staff and customers at all organizational levels
  18. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

 
This position is residential, requiring the employee to live on-site during the work week.  Room and board are provided.  Our program operates at five sites in Northwest Oregon near the following communities; Vernonia, Salem, Junction City, Rockaway Beach & Lincoln City.  Employees are assigned to one site for the duration of their employment. There may be an opportunity available to continue employment for the Spring session.
 
Employee will be compensated 8 hours for every day worked.  Weekly schedule varies between 5 and 6 day work weeks.  Most work weeks are 5 days.  Due to the seasonal camp-based nature of this position, it is exempt for state overtime wage regulations.
