The Chicago Latino Theater Alliance (CLATA) was created from a need to help emerging playwrights stage their work. We have to tell our stories – to have our voices heard.
Chicago is home to countless quality Latino theater groups. Yet, very few have a space they call home. The Chicago Latino Theater Alliance (CLATA) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization founded in 2016 by a group of Latino cultural leaders: the International Latino Cultural Center, the National Museum of Mexican Art, the Puerto Rican Arts Alliance and arts executive Myrna Salazar.
We have three main goals: the first is to produce the country’s leading international Latino theater festival with an emphasis on showcasing local Latino theater artists; second, is to provide technical and professional support for Chicago’s Latino theater groups, not only to be sustainable but to thrive as well; third, is to build a permanent home for Chicago’s Latino theater groups.
